Cultural Expression Mask Analysis


Respond to the following questions/prompts based on analyzing your own mask.
  • What expression does the mask convey?
  • How did you use the following elements to communicate the expression?
    • Form of the facial features
    • Design characteristics (pattern, shape, texture, materials, etc.)
    • Color
  • List 6 adjectives to describe the mask.
  • Summarize the cultural/historical significance of the reference mask.
  • How does this unique expression relate to or change the meaning of the cultural context?
  • Create the identity of the mask character (name, personality, purpose).

Vans Custom Culture Contest 2014

All Art students:
Submit your designs for our WHS entry in the Vans Custom Culture Contest.

All template designs are due Friday, 3-14 to Mr. Bayek/Ms. Haas.
Selected students will be given shoes to customize on Monday 3-17.
Completed customized Vans are due to Mr. Bayek/Ms. Haas on Monday 4-7.

All designs/artwork must be original.

The Four Themes:
  • Art
  • Music
  • Action sports (boards & bikes)
  • Local Flavor (Wethersfield/CT on the large)

Sketchbook Assignment #8- Altered Book Research/Brainstorm Mind maps (Due Monday, November 25th)

Through research and creative brainstorming create a series of mind maps based on the following prompts:
·       Techniques for 2D artwork in an altered book.
·       Techniques for 3D artwork in an altered book.
·       Purposes of an altered book.
·       Ideas for your own book.

*Print out any images of techniques/designs/styles that you find interesting/inspiring.
