Art II- Week of October 21st

After completing SB#2- Deconstructed Character Brainstorm, each student selected 1 character that provides visually interesting characteristics the will be deconstructed, then composed into an abstract relief sculpture.

Using the visual information of that character, students created 3 different composition sketches using the simplified parts of their character.

KEY CONCEPTS in composing the character features:
Variety in size, color, shapes, textures, and levels/angles.
Altered scale- size relationship of parts.

All students are in the process of creating the deconstructed elements of their chosen character and assembling them into a cohesive and visually interesting composition.

Art I- week of October 21st

ART I students began the first of two One-Point Perspective projects.
Students learned the step-by-step process of turning a shape (2-dimensional) into a form (3-dimensional). They then individually practiced the series of techniques involved in creating dimensional forms in a continuous space. The 12 practice forms each student created became increasingly complex as students gained understanding, skill and confidence with the process.

Students will use one-point perspective to create a composition of complex forms and real-world objects. Collective brainstorming in small groups helped all students generate ideas for real-world objects that are based on cylindricalrectangular and complex forms (combinations of multiple forms).

Art I- week of October 14th

ART I students have continued to develop skills and techniques related to observational drawing.

Viewfinders were used to find and sketch 5 different interesting areas of the object. The most effective composition was selected as the basis of the final Value Close-Up.

complete range of value must be observed and developed in order to create the illusion of the three-dimensional form of the object. Desk lamps were set up at each table in order to provide students with a strong light source, making the effect of light on each object more dynamic and obvious. Students were provided with feedback throughout the entire development of their work to ensure understanding and application of learning.

Art II- week of October 7th

Art II students continued the development of their Value Object Composition.

Students are carefully observing each of the 3 viewpoints of their object under a strong light-source, in order to develop a full range of value.

Value development is essential to creating the formtexture and surface quality of the object. It additionally plays an important role is creating contrast and emphasis, important elements involved in creating a strong focal point.

Art I- week of October 1st

ART I students have continued to develop skills and techniques related to observational drawing.

To draw realistically, one must be able to observe critically.

After creating 3 viewpoint sketches of their entire object, the most interesting viewpoint was selected as the basis of the final Contour line drawing.
