Art I- week of September 9th

ART I students have been developing the skills and knowledge related to rendering dimensional form within their drawings through the careful observation and creation of value.

Students created a 9-step value scale, focusing on gradual transitions from one tone to the next, and smooth application of tones through pencil pressure, use of multiple grades of drawing pencils (4H, HB & 6B) and various pencil stroke techniques.

This full-range of tones will be applied to their drawings of the 4 Basic Forms (sphere, cone, cylinder, and cube). These forms were set up at each table and a desk lamp was utilized as the single, dramatic light source in order to make the presence of light and tonal range more obvious.

Students will apply this learning to the creation of a full-range value drawing of a close-up area of the object they have selected in class.
