Art II- Week of January 28th

Art II students began brainstorming, researching & exploring possible purposes of Altered Books. Many past student exemplars provided the reference point for understanding the creative & expressive possibilities of this art-form.

Through Sketchbook Assignment #1 (Altered Book Purpose and Ideas), students planned their self-selected purpose of their Altered Book. In addition to the visual compositions, students considered and noted various techniques, processes & materials that can add variety, texture, dimension & interactive qualities to the viewers experience of their Altered Book.

Approximately 4 weeks of class-time will be devoted to developing the Altered Book project. The project will then become a long-term, outside-of-class project, due for presentation at the Final Exam.

The completed Altered Book must have a minimum of 10 high-quality spreads related to the selected purpose, a cover design & be presented with the accompanying Artist Statement. The format/content of the Artist Statement will be provided, and will communicate the purpose of the book, an explanation as to why the purpose was selected, and a description of the various ways in which the purpose was visually communicated.
